A group of 48 Serbs serving in the Kosovo Customs Service have officially resigned from their positions. The resignations were tendered in protest at the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence, according to media in Pristina. Serbs abandon Kosovo Customs Service Albanian-language media in Pristina said that disciplinary action had been taken against the 48 Serb customs workers who had not come to work since February 17. Although no deadlines had been given to the suspended officials to return to their jobs, they handed in their letters of resignation yesterday. A spokesman said that the Customs Service had started looking for replacements. He said that “regardless of the fact that 48 Serb customs workers left, the Service has received applications from a large number of Serbs.” Meanwhile, the Serbian government’s office in Kosovo, located in Kosovska Mitrovica, has stated that one of the three Serb returnees to Decane, Bozidar Tomic, has been attacked and assaulted by an unknown Albanian. Tomic suffered minor injuries in the attack, which occurred on Wednesday, according to the statement. The office stated that Tomic had been confronted by an Albanian in front of a café, who attacked him and punched him in the face several times after discovering that he was a Serb.
