Nenad Canak will support President Boris Tadic as “he has the best chance of beating the Radicals’ candidate Tomislav Nikolic." The leader of the League of Vojvodina Social Democrats said that Serbia must not let itself have a Radical as president. Former Jovanovic ally backs Tadic Canak asked the remaining democratic presidential candidates, above all Liberal Democratic Party leader Cedomir Jovanovic, whether they would back Tadic in the second round or not. “If you’re going to support him, then there’s nothing controversial in me supporting Tadic. But if you’re not, please explain to me what is good about Nikolic becoming president,” he said. “That’s why I’m prepared to support Boris Tadic even in the first round, so that we don’t make the same mistake as we did in the local elections in Novi Sad in 2004 when, because of a lack of coordination between the parties of the democratic bloc, Radical candidate Maja Gojkovic became mayor,” explained Canak. Two days ago, the leadership of the Romanian Community also declared its support for the incumbent president. Community President Ion Cizmas and MP Ion Magde said that “Tadic is an unwavering and capable statesman who has the strength, vision and wisdom to lead Serbia on the European path.” “The January presidential elections are, in their own way, a referendum on Serbia’s future, European integration, enhancing standards and the quality of life, security and safety for all citizens. There’s no turning back, this is a brave decision and the only just path,” said Cizmas. Nenad Canak (FoNet, archive)
