U.S. analyst Damon Wilson said that it can be heard more often in Washington that there is no difference between Boris Tadic and Serbia's nationalistic parties. He said that the resolution on Kosovo which Serbia submitted to the UN General Assembly has had a negative impact on Belgrade-Washington relations. Analyst: Opinion on Tadic slowly changing “The draft resolution perpetuates and prolongs independence, which in my opinion isn’t contributing to the clarification of the situation regarding Kosovo,” he told Voice of America (VOA). “The situation has turned into a headache for some countries and included certain difficulties regarding American-Serbian relations and efforts to improve these relations and take them to a higher level,” Wilson pointed out. He thinks that U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden and others have extended a friendly hand to Serbia but that the resolution is a factor that is now complicating things. “This brings us back to the past, interferes with relations and in fact makes it hard for Serbian President Boris Tadic to achieve real relations with U.S. President Barak Obama and continue his relations with Vice President Biden,” Wilson stressed. Regarding a series of recent visits of American and European officials to Serbia, he emphasized that it was very important to precisely lay out the positions of the U.S. and European Union. “Ambiguities create an impression with some in Belgrade that taking such steps could go without consequence because they think they can use the differences which exist, especially among the Europeans. I personally think that it only raises false hopes in Belgrade,” Wilson pointed out. Things will not change in Kosovo and Serbia should respect that, he added. “As far as several recent visits of the Western officials to Belgrade are concerned, I think that their goal was to remind Serbia that it should give up focusing on Kosovo and to finally turn to a real future,” he stated. “There’s a risk that Serbia’s tactics will alienate key political factors in Washington and Brussels. The hand extended to Belgrade could be withdrawn. I don’t believe that Serbian citizens would take any further delays of their country’s European integration well,” Wilson said. According to him, the defense and security sector is much more ready for reforms and European integrations than Serbia’s political leadership.
