KFOR received on Wednesday from local Serbs the keys of the Strpce substation, owned by Serbian power company EPS. They handed them over to the Kosovo company distributing electricity, KEK. Today municipal president Stanko Jakovljevic signed a collective agreement with this company. K. Serbs expect to be reconnected Strpce municipality representatives said that this was the last condition for the residents to have electricity restored after more than a month of being cut off. This municipality, the southern-most Serb populated in Kosovo, inhabited by about 12,000 Serbs and 3,500 ethnic Albanians, has been deprived of electricity for nearly one month. KEK workers are expected to start collecting lump sum payments. It was announced that once 70 percent of that sum has been collected, people will be reconnected. KEK representatives Tuesday also demanded the keys to the EPS management building, but it will remain under EPS control.
