Who is (was) Dragan Dabić?

BELGRADE -- The Interior Ministry has informed Tanjug that Radovan Karadžić’s alias, Dragan Dabić, is alive and well.

“Such a man exists, he is alive, which means that falsified documents were used,” ministry agencies claim, as they continue to look into the rest of the details tied to Karadžić’s assumed identity.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding the identity that the former Bosnian Serb leader used while on the run from the authorities.

There is information indicating that Dragan Dabić died in Sarajevo in 1993.

Dragan Dabić from Sarajevo was killed by a sniper’s bullet coming from the direction of Serb forces commanded by Karadžić.

Bosnian media are up in arms over the fact that Karadžić hid behind the identity of a man whose death he had command responsibility for, even though it is unclear whether this man was the Dragan Dabić in question.

The brother of the deceased Dragan Dabić, Mladen, told Bosnian state television that he was shocked by the revelations.

“It is shocking, absolutely horrific. He died in 1993 trying to find humanitarian help at Hero Square. He was running through there and the sniper came from a position in Vrace, and that’s where he died,” Mladen Dabić recalled.

Karadžić is accused of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
