Mustafa Makic, chairman of the Islamic Community of Sandzak Council, was wounded in an incident last night in Sjenica, at around 22:00 CET. Reis of the Islamic Community of Serbia (IZS) Adem Zilkic said that Makic had received a gunshot wound to the left leg and that he was in hospital in Prijepolje, where he will be operated on. Mustafa Makic is no ordinary official, he is the chairman of the highest body of the Islamic Community of Sandzak, as an organizational unit of the Islamic Community of Serbia,” said Zilkic. He accused Bosnian reis Mustafa Ceric and chief mufti in Serbia Muamer Zukorlic of being behind the attack on Makic. “That’s a direct attack on the Islamic Community, on the eve of Mustafa Ceric’s visit to Sandzak. Who the gunman was we don’t know, but we know who was behind it. That’s mufti Zukorlic. Mustafa Ceric’s responsibility is the same as that of the gunman and the client,” said Zilkic. He warned that the authorities should approach the situation with “maximum gravity.” “I no longer have control over worshippers, so you could have an inter-Bosniak conflict, which could escalate into something akin to a civil war,” said the head of the Islamic Community of Serbia. The Islamic Community in Serbia is part of the Bosnian Riaset. The rival Islamic Community of Serbia is not part of that Riaset, but has elected its own reis in the form of Zilkic. In efforts to establish control over as many buildings and institutions as possible, the two rival factions have come to blows on a number of occasions, while several people have been shot during those incidents. Zukorlic said yesterday that the Ceric would be arriving in Sandzak on a three-day visit to the region, starting on Monday.
