Veljko Maric, who has been sentenced in Serbia to 12 years in prison for war crimes, will be extradited to Croatia, the Croatian media say.

Maric, who has been jailed for the past five years, recently told the Vecernji List that he wants to be allowed to serve his sentence in Croatia."These political games, the dirty laundry to be washed over my back, should finally come to an end. It's a disgrace. I'm tired of saying that I am not guilty of this crime, it is only important that I get transferred to serve my sentence in Croatia. As far as this second procedure, I would like to have a fair trial in Croatia, so if I'm guilty, I will serve in my own country," he said.
The War Crimes Department of the Higher Court in Belgrade sentenced Maric to 12 years in jail for the crimes he committed against civilians.
The Higher Court in Belgrade ruled that the Croatian citizen was guilty of killing, as a member of the military, Petar Slijepcevic in October 199, in the village of Rastovac in the municipality of Grubisno Polje.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said during a recent visit to Zagreb that he expect the governments of the two countries to resolve the case of Croatian war veteran Veljko Maric.
