Vojislav Seselj has informed the SRS representatives that the doctor who examined him at the hospital told him he had received inadequate medical treatment. The leader of the opposition Serb Radicals (SRS) has been detained at the Hague Tribunal since 2003, undergoing trial on war crimes charges. "Doctor said Seselj was inadequately treated" "The Hague did not allow for Seselj to spend a single night in hospital under supervision, but was rather returned to the detention unit," member of the SRS presidential collegium Dejan Mirovic stated at a news conference in Belgrade on Thusday. Mirovic recalled that Seselj, who recently underwent a pacemaker implant surgery, was transferred back to the hospital on Wednesday evening as his health condition deteriorated, adding that, as soon as his condition had slightly improved, he was returned to the detention unit. Mirovic underlined that the party requested a session of the UN Security Council which would focus on the issue of termination of illegal proceedings instituted against Seselj before the Hague Tribunal. Mirovic stated that SRS earlier today submitted a petition with over 600,000 signatures to the Russian Embassy in Belgrade, requesting that Seselj be set free. According to SRS deputy leader Dragan Todorovic, the signatures will be forwarded to Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Security Council Vitaly Churkin, who will be asked to request urgent release and acquittal of Seselj. Mirovic assessed that SRS has greater support from the Russian than from the Serbian authorities. According to him, at a news conference attended by over 300 reporters on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov mentioned the Seselj case "which is being ignored in Serbia."
