Ratko Mladić chooses defense lawyer

Hague indictee Ratko Mladić gave his consent on Wednesday to lawyer Branko Lukić to be his representative before the Hague Tribunal.

Hague indictee Ratko Mladic gave his consent on Wednesday to lawyer Branko Lukic to be his representative before the Hague Tribunal. Reports said however that "necessary procedures need to be completed for him to be appointed as Mladic's defense attorney". Ratko Mladic chooses defense lawyer Lukic told Tanjug that he delivered the authorization signed by Mladic to the Hague Secretariat. “For me to be appointed as Mladic's defense attorney, certain procedural requirements need to be fulfilled first. Conflict of interests needs to be eliminated because I also represented Major Dragan Jokic before the Hague, in the trial for the Srebrenica crime,” Lukic noted. Lukić told Tanjug that he delivered the authorization signed by Mladić to the Hague Secretariat.

“For me to be appointed as Mladić's defense attorney, certain procedural requirements need to be fulfilled first. Conflict of interests needs to be eliminated because I also represented Major Dragan Jokić before the Hague, in the trial for the Srebrenica crime,” Lukić noted.

The lawyer said that General Sreten Lukić needs to give his consent as well, whom he is also representing before the Hague.
