BELGRADE Social-Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS) leader Rasim Ljajic has said that an agreement on his party’s participation in the government has not been reached yet. He added that he was waiting for an opinion of the Democratic Party (DS). “SDPS won’t joint govt. without Democrats’ consent” Ljajic is supposed to meet with DS leader Boris Tadic on Wednesday. “If the answer is negative, the talks on the participation in the majority will not continue,” the SDPS leader pointed out. He told Tanjug that the agony regarding the SDPS’ participation in the government needed to end one way or another “because this leads nowhere”. Ljajic underscored that the Democrats at the moment still did not have a position on it and that it was therefore pointless to talk about his party in the future government. “We will not start any detailed and concrete talks without the position of the DS as our coalition partner. It is of decisive importance to me because I want to be fair to the end,” he explained. Ljajic said earlier that he wanted to hear personally from the DS leader that he had his support to join Ivica Dacic’s government. Ljajic did not want to give any prognosis as to whether he would get Tadic’s support and told daily Danas that he could not say what Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) acting leader Aleksandar Vucic offered him in the future government. “The Progressives still have not come out with a concrete proposal for the ministry,” he explained. Danas’ sources claim that the SDPS leader was offered both the deputy PM and ministerial position. Ljajic already talked about his participation in the government with Dacic and Vucic. “The talks with Vucic were very honest and open and the offer is more than fair on condition that I personally join the government,” he said after the meeting with the SNS acting leader. He told daily Press earlier that he “certainly will not be a minister in the new government” but that it was possible that his party could join it. Dacic discussed the new government with Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) leader Istvan Pastor who informed him that the SVM would not be a part of the parliamentary majority but that it supported the government’s program and goals. Sulejman Ugljanin’s Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak was also offered to join the future government and Ugljanin said that he would soon decide whether his party would be a part of the new majority.
