Serbian President Boris Tadic will begin a two-day visit to Brussels on Monday by meeting with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy. His office said that Tadic is going to hold a lecture on Serbia's EU integration at the European Policy Center on Tuesday. Tadic to meet with European Council president Van Rompuy's cabinet announced earlier that the two officials will hold a joint news conference after the meeting. Serbia's EU integration should gain new momentum after the arrest and extradition of Ratko Mladic, former Bosnian Serb commander and war crimes indictee of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), since his apprehension was one of the main requirements to move forward with the integration process. Tadic and Rompuy are meeting on the same day that ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is presenting his report to the UN Security Council. The report focuses on the cooperation provided by Serbia and other countries in the region. Brammertz said in The Hague earlier he would point out that Serbia had fulfilled a major international obligation. His opinion has so far been stressed as important for the EU in deciding on Serbia's candidate status and potential date for the start of the accession negotiations, which is what Belgrade desires.
