Del Ponte, a former chief prosecutor for the Hague Tribunal, also told the daily that she was unaware the UN war crimes court in The Hague destroyed 400 pieces of evidence collected in 2004, related to the case. "I was informed that the evidence was destroyed last year, by reading the press, and, honestly speaking, I was surprised," said she. "I am publicly stating my readiness to take over the investigation, because I know the facts related to this case, because I know the people involved, and because I have a huge experience. All this has nothing to do with my ambassadorial position," Del Ponte, who recently withdrew from the post of Swiss ambassador to Argentina, stated. It was her book published in early 2008 which first publicly mentioned allegations that members of ethnic Albanian KLA kidnapped Serbs and other civilians in Kosovo, imprisoning them in northern Albania and killing them for their body parts, that were then sold in the black market. The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution launched its investigation into the allegations, which became informally known as the Yellow House case, after one of the locations in northern Albania where the victims were believed to have been held. Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty presented his report on the subject in late December of 2010, while a month later the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution based on the report backing an independent investigation. Serbia insists that the probe should be conducted withing the UN framework, but does not have the support of some Security Council members who believe the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, is capable of carrying out the investigation.
