President Boris Tadic wished the Serbian citizens a happy New Year with hopes that 2010 will be "much easier on them than this year". He said that he does not expect 2010 to be easy, but said that it can be a year in which industrial growth can be achieved. Tadic: 2010 will be easier than 2009 “At the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009, I said that this year would be a year without development, but that there will be a maintaining of capacities, and that is what happened,” Tadic said. He stated that most presidents around the world see the maintenance of economic capacities as a big success, as does Serbia. The president went on to say that Serbia was hit by a recession, but that "unlike many other countries, Serbia expects to have a growth of 1.5 percent in production during 2010". He thanked the citizens "for their understanding" for reforms and economic policy measures that were taken in order to overcome the economic crisis. “This was a very difficult year, with unforeseeable dangers. It was a difficult political, economic and social experience, because these kinds of crises hit humanity once every 100 years,” according to him. Tadic wished all citizens a happier and better New Year, with hopes that a year like 2009 "will not happen to us again". Tadic speaks in Belgrade today (Beta)
