Kosovo expects to declare independence and seek recognition from its Western backers right after December 10, Reuters reported. Speaking ahead of a round of talks this week in Vienna, Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku said the province would "remain stable provided the West moves quickly to recognize it as Europe's newest state," according to the agency. Ceku: Independence in December "Kosovo will be stable and peaceful if we all invest, if we are all careful and do our job," he told a news conference. "First, the international community must act quickly to recognize our country." Asked what would happen after December 10, when a Troika of U.S., EU and Russian envoys heading the new talks is to report back to the United Nations, Ceku said: "The only development I expect is the declaration and recognition of Kosovo's independence. This must happen immediately after December 10."
