Del Ponte: Serbia's failure to arrest Mladić inexcusable
The trial of Ljubiša Bear, Vujadin Popović, Vinko Pandurević, Drago Nikolić, Ljubomir Borovčanin, Milan Gvero and Radivoje Miletić formally started on July 14 this year, debating procedural issues. Chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte made a brief introduction before Prosecutor Peter Mccluskie’s opening statement.BBC reports that the UN chief prosecutor in The Hague has condemned Serbia's failure to hand over Ratko Mladić as seven other Bosnian Serbs faced the judges again.
"Mladić should be on trial for this case," Carla del Ponte said, presenting the prosecution case against the seven on trial for the Srebrenica massacre.
As the trial resumed on Monday, Del Ponte said it was "inexcusable" that Serbia had not arrested Gen Mladić, accused of masterminding the massacre.
In the trial of the former Serbian president Milan Milutinović and five others indicted of crimes against the Kosovo Albanians in 1999, the prosecution will bring new witnesses to stand, mostly eye-witnesses of the alleged crimes.
In the trial of the former Croatian Serb leader Milan Martić, accused of the crimes that took place in the Knin Krajina, western Bosnia and Zagreb, a former Knin police officer, protected witness MM096, will continue with his testimony.
