Living standard falling in Serbia
The cost of living in January was 0.6 percent greater than in December of last year and 4.8 percent higher compared to the same time last year.

The cost of living in January was 0.6 percent greater than in December of last year and 4.8 percent higher compared to the same time last year. Last year, the increase in prices was 10.1 percent, which is 6.6 percent measured by European standards. Living standard falling in Serbia Economic analyst Vladimir Vuckovic said that he is convinced that the fall in the standard of living is a lot greater than the objective inflation trends show. “In both cases, citizens feel that their buying power is decreasing. When we add to this the stagnation of wages, decreases in wages, uncertain future, it is clear that the subjective feeling of a decreasing standard of living is a lot greater than the objective trends of inflation show,” he said. The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) officially stated that the projected goals have been achieved, because last year’s inflation was 6.6 percent. However, some company owners say that the inflation was felt a lot harder than the NBS is telling the public. “For us this inflation was a lot greater than 10 percent, because we had a melted profit. At the end of the year, we had a 20 percent devaluation but 80 percent loss of profit,” Food Land company official Vasa Lekic said.
