Kiev threatens to use force in east
Participants in the protests in eastern Ukraine do not recognize the legitimacy of new governors named after the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych and demand more rights for the regions, as well as referendums on their status. The protests in the three towns began on Sunday, but escalated throughout Monday and Tuesday. Local administration buildings were seized in Donetsk and Kharkov and "republics", independent of Kiev, declared. In Lugansk local headquarters of the Ukrainian state security were seized.
Kiev then launched "anti-terrorist" operations and arrested about 70 protesters, something that Russia said was unacceptable.
Western powers, as in the case of Crimea, which seceded from Ukraine in a similar process, for now watch and warn Russia, which they consider responsible for the wave of secessionism in Ukraine.
