Hi Peter !

You know Ukraine has always been an artificial unity. It was during Pereyaslavskaya Rada , during Petlura and Mahno , Bendera and Yushenko ect. The unity of very different parts could be supported only under a strong central power. But now it is gone while Russia is interested in the further fragmentation. I guess Putin means the 9-10 remaining Russian regions passed to the Ukraine after 1919. Within 95 years of joint boiling their fat has not united. As you know everything Putin is doing is a special operation while Ukraine has always been his international goal number one. South Stream and Army building are just derivatives. I can see a pause before he will resume the attack.

What is important he has little maneuver coz his people is more radical than he is. Besides he really means it by himself. So it’s just a matter of time and tactics. As you can see the whole western world crusaders went against us. They can see the end of the mono-polar world. So it’s not that easy to do what Russia means in the Ukraine. We have no leaders in the south-east because they are arrested immediately. So the new tactics includes multiple leaders. Another thing is the armed groups ready to fight. They mean a referendum to show how us and the Nazi are different. But the most severe armament is the economic collapse to happen rather soon. We just have to be patient enough and wait until the dead body of our rival floats down the river.

Yes, on the one side, force of Ukrainian fascists, on the other side, force of Russian separatists, surely sponsored and encouraged by Russia, not to mention the 'Russian self defense troops' in Crimea unindentified soldiers in uniforms which surprisingly look exactly like Russian army uniforms with insignia removed, moving in military vehicles with Russian number plates acting like pirates.

I agree that things are in motion that cannot be undone. They have gone too far and won't be able to settle without something radical happening, like a Russian invasion, a split of the country - or at least further fragmentation or even a civil war if the Kiev authorities crack down on the Easterners and their separatist goals.

One thing though, about the current Kiev regime and its legitimacy. Who would you then suggest be considered the legitimate ruler after the coming elections? Yanukovich? Surely you will agree that if this idiot is voted into power again, we will see a civil war again. His legitimacy became null and void when he robbed Ukraine blind and was ousted in the coup. Whatever the choice will be, as I have said before in another post, will not be to almost half the country's satisfaction anyway.

It's not rocket science for one to see why the people of Eastern Ukraine want to join Russia.Propaganda apart, they've seen the salaries and pensions of the Crimeans increasing by 100% since joining Russia, plus $ 4 billion in new infrastructure projects. This is in deep contrast to what putsch-installed government in Kiev is set to do in Ukraine by announcing IMF conditions of salaries and pension cuts, domestic energy price increases, as a part of conditions of austerity measures for loans.
However, it seems to me that we are led towards a big war on the Russian borders using the fascist thugs in Ukraine as proxy. This political scum making up the EU/US chorus don't give a sh.. about what ordinary Ukrainians think.

How many countries does the West need to add to the 'ex' list to prove its moral, intellectual, political and economical superiority?

Like a fat boy in a candy store, it simply can't help itself.

It’s too late Peter ! It’s a great pity but the war has almost started and it will dictate us it’s own rules. All sides involved will only be reflecting to the fast changing battlefield. In a great degree we are all just witnesses of the started madness when none of the sides will retreat. At least for the time being. Kiev authorities will very soon turn into Kiev atrocities as they have no maneuver and no place to retreat. They also have zero chance to be legalized even after the presidential elections. By dismissing both the Constitutional and the High Courts they deprived themselves of any potential legal basis. There’s no power able to impose the Nazi regime to Russia. So it can exist only for weeks or months. US are unable to defend it just the way it happened with the Georgian fascists.

The only thing the West is able to do is to harm us economically or morally. But you cannot demonize us twice so we have nothing to lose. Besides the Russian dimension is quite different from what they expect in the west. It’s like the system of values created in 1941 when nothing but the Victory mattered. The idea was expressed by Bulat Okudjava as : «А нынче нам нужна одна победа, Одна на всех – мы за ценой не постоим !» It means that 95% of the people are ready for blood and material losses to regain our dignity and restore our sovereignty over our own lands. Unlike the rest of the world Russians take the Ukrainian crisis as a home affair. So sad …

Not a good idea at all. We all saw what situation we have now in the Ukraine as a result of force. I am sure that no one wants more bloodshed, rioting and total chaos in a already troubled and desperately poor country.

I believe that the best thing that the Kiev authorities can now do is take Russia's advice and federalize the country ala Russian Federation style. It managed to defuse the situation in Dagestan and Chechnya. I believe that by giving autonomy to the Donbass and other Novorossiya regions, Ukraine would be able to stay together and not fragment altogether.

Crimea did set a precedent by breaking away through referendum for these Eastern regions, but it is a unique case in that it was already an autonomous unit and only relatively recently butted onto Ukraine. It is gone and a done deal, but the East can still be saved if Kiev decides to give them more freedom and autonomy through restructuring the country's administrative regions, rather than resorting to force.

This will only lead to a civil war in an already volatile country and lead to a total split down the middle anyway. I pray that the West will see reason and not encourage Kiev (through empty words and promises, I might add) to tempt war by trying to pacify the Eastern regions, which are high on Russian propaganda of "fascists" out to get them. They should not reinforce this opinion of them by actually acting like fascists and resorting to violent force.
