An Islamic extremist group from Russia's North Caucasus has claimed responsibility for two terrorist attacks in Volgograd in late December.

MOSCOW An Islamic extremist group from Russia's North Caucasus has claimed responsibility for two terrorist attacks in Volgograd in late December. The group also posted a video threatening to attack the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The video shows two men sitting under a sign written in Arabic, speaking in Russian, and warning President Vladimir Putin that if the games were held, "we will give you a present for the innocent Muslim blood being spilled all around the world: In Afghanistan, in Somalia, in Syria." There had been no previous claim of responsibility for the bombings, which killed 34 people and heightened security fears before next month's Winter Games, the AP reported.
