MOSCOW Russian President Vladimir Putin has called U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry a liar because he denied that al Qaeda was fighting with the Syrian opposition. Putin was addressing a gathering on human rights in Moscow when he said that he watched a debate in the U.S. Congress when Kerry, asked about al Qaeda, denied that it was operating in Syria - although he was aware of the al Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra group. Putin says U.S. secretary of state is lying about Syria "This was very unpleasant and surprising for me. We talk to them (the Americans) and we assume they are decent people, but he is lying and he knows that he is lying. This is sad," the president was quoted as saying. Putin also reiterated that any use of force in Syria without approval of the UN Security Council would represent an act of aggression. (Beta, file) Blic
