BELGRADE An Italian court has postponed the trial of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi until at least May 13. Berlusconi is on trial for paying for sex with a 17-year-old prostitute. Italy: Berlusconi's trial postponed The court in Milan postponed the trial on Monday because it is still waiting on a decision of the Italian Supreme Court, which is considering an appeal of the defense team of the former prime minister, requesting for the trial to be conducted in a different city, the AFP said. The defense team has accused several of Milanese judges of creating a hostile environment around their client, pointing out that Berlusconi would have a much more fair trial in nearby Brescia. The Supreme Court's decision is expected on May 6, and if the trial continues in Milan, it will resume on May 13. However, if the trial is moved to another city, the continuation of the process could be delayed until later. Berlusconi has been charged for paying for sex with Karima el Mahroug, "an exotic dancer" nicknamed Ruby, who was 17 at the time, in 2010. Berlusconi could be sent to prison for three years if found guilty on that count of the indictment, and for 12 more on charges that he pressured the police to release Ruby from custody when she was arrested for petty theft.
