Arab websites are urging citizens to boycott products made in Switzerland, in protest of a ban on the construction of minarets in that country. “The Swiss do not want our minarets, we do not want Swiss products,” says one of the websites, according to a report aired on Swiss national television TSR. Arabs called to boycott Swiss products The TV station estimates that this boycott resembles a similar campaign against Denmark, which caused that country to suffer losses of some EUR 470mn. The outrage in the Muslim world on that occasion was caused by a Danish newspaper printing cartoons of Islamic prophet Muhammad. The call to boycott Swiss products refers to luxury watches and food, and Arabs are also urged to withdraw their money from Swiss banks. The Swiss minaret referendum was held on November 26. There are about 400,000 Muslims living in that country.
