Đoković to miss Davis Cup tie against India

Despite earlier announcements, world No. 1 tennis player Novak Đoković will not play for Serbia in the Davis Cup tie against India next week.

Đoković to miss Davis Cup tie against India

Serbian team coach Bogdan Obradović said on Sunday that Đoković would not be going to India.

He cited fatigue as the main reason, and pointed out that Đoković recently "went through a very tough part of the season and needed a break" while "conditions in India are very difficult, with high altitude and humidity."

"Novak believes in our victory and has given us his support," Obradović remarked.

The team will include Dušan Lajović, Filip Krajinović, Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjić. The first three have already departed for Bangalore, while Zimonjić will join the team on Monday.

The matches will be played September 12-14.

On Saturday, Kei Nishikori of Japan defeated Đoković in the U.S. Open semifinals, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
