Safer Internet Day 2014 marked in Serbia

The debate will be attended by representatives of the academia, government agencies, researchers, young users of information and communication technologies (ICT), as well as primary and secondary school students from Belgrade.

The aim of the debate is to consider the opportunities of schools, parents, and children, jointly engaging and contributing to make the internet a safer environment for the youngest users.

Later in the day, at 15:00 CET, the same venue will host elementary school students who will have the opportunity to try and compete with each other in a game of knowledge and memory on the safe use of ICT.

The backbone of this year's activities to mark Safer Internet Day will take place at noon in the small hall of the National Assembly, organized by the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications, and the Safer Internet Center.

During the debate in the parliament building, final year primary school students from several towns in Serbia will present their views and ideas about what children need to know about safe internet use. Before the start of the debate, the students will be address by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić, Veran Matić, Chairman of the Board of B92 Fund, Saša Živanović, head of the cyber crime department of the Serbian MUP, Michael Davenport, head of the EU delegation, Assistant Minister of Education Ljubiša Antonijević, and President of the National Assembly, Nebojša Stefanović.

Safer Internet Day is being marked for a third year in a row. Apart from Belgrade, a series of events will be taking place in Niš, Kragujevac, Novi Sad and Zaječar.

The Safer Internet Center "Click Safely" was founded in January 2013. The aim of the Center is to raise awareness and provide educational activities in primary and secondary schools in Serbia for students aged 11 to 17, their parents, teachers and school psychologists, as well as providing relevant information on the safe use of the internet and ICT to the public in Serbia.

Another important segment of the Center, besides the aforementioned educational activities, is an electronic mechanism for reporting illegal and harmful content on the Internet, "Net Patrol", while the implementation of the Center's activities are directed and improved by the Advisory Board and the Children's Council.

The work of the center is managed, assisted and supported the B92 Fund, the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The financial support for the project is provided by the European Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology, DG Connect.
