Belgrade - Serbian Republic Broadcasting Agency (RBA) held a meeting which will decide on the allocation of national and regional frequencies. Voting on the allocation of national and regional frequencies is underway. Republic Broadcasting Agency vote on frequency of TV Avala Applicants for national coverage whose documentation was complete and timely are TV Nova and TV World Copernicus plus 3. TV Unity and TV NP from Novi Pazar, Telemark TV Cacak, My TV, and Radio Belgrade M from Knjazevac compete for regional coverage. The Serbian Republic Broadcasting Agency has previously announced that the national frequency for broadcasting television programmes will be assigned based on an assessment of business success of the candidate, TV Station, the experience in broadcasting and core activities, the extent to which the TV provided incentives for the development of domestic broadcasting and contributed to better quality and variety of programme. What will be evaluated is also the conduct of the applicant - before and during the competition, transparency of ownership structure and origin of the capital, as well as preventing overt or covert imposing of dominant influence on public opinion in the field of broadcasting. Ljajic: Digitization is better The Minister of Telecommunications and Foreign and Domestic Trade, Rasim Ljajic says that he will respect the decision that the RBA reach today but adds that he believes that the free radio-frequency spectrum could have a much more rational use in the digitalization process, because the state could have significant financial and all other benefits. According to him, the RBA may not grant anyone the frequency, if the broadcasters do not meet the requirements, but there is a legal procedure according to which, if a single channel i.e. radio-frequency spectrum is released there is an obligation to announce Call for proposals for awarding the spectrum. Digitization is the process that could potentially bring Serbia circa 100 million EUR. By using pragmatic approach and determining the frequency for the digitization it is estimated that by the end of the year 80 percent of households will have been covered by the digital signal. And if we do not carry out digitization, it would cause new problems for the citizens and the state, because the process of digitizing and standardizing is among the key issues on the way towards European integrations and Serbia has already taken the responsibility of carrying it out. Otherwise, Serbia will be an analogous stain in a digital environment with major problems that may arise with the broadcast signal in our territory, as the digital signal from the countries in the surroundings having already completed the digitization process would ‘intercept and hinder our analogous signal’, making practical problems thus in receiving the signal" Ljajic said. /Tanjug, file/ B92 Beta Tanjug
