Around 2,000 signatures supporting building a monument to former Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milošević were collected in a week.

Around 2,000 signatures supporting building a monument to former Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic were collected in a week. The monument should be erected in in the southern Serbian town of Prokuplje Socialists collect 2,000 signatures for Milosevic monument Socialist Movement leader in Prokuplje Ratko Zecevic has said he expects to collect 4,000 signatures very soon, which is necessary in order for the initiative to get on the local assembly’s agenda. The initiative was launched by Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) councilor Miroljub Djordjevic. He pointed out that the funds for the monument would be provided through donations and that the municipality would not bear the costs. Prokuplje Mayor and Democratic Party (DS) official told journalists that the DS councilors would not support the proposal if the Socialists managed to collect 4,000 signatures. Socialists collect 2,000 signatures for Milošević monument

Socialist Movement leader in Prokuplje Ratko Zečević has said he expects to collect 4,000 signatures very soon, which is necessary in order for the initiative to get on the local assembly’s agenda.

The initiative was launched by Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) councilor Miroljub Đorđević.

He pointed out that the funds for the monument would be provided through donations and that the municipality would not bear the costs.

Prokuplje Mayor and Democratic Party (DS) official told journalists that the DS councilors would not support the proposal if the Socialists managed to collect 4,000 signatures.

Even some top SPS officials have said they are against building the monument to Milošević.
