New Year gifts for shelter children

The Ministry of Labor has given New Year’s presents to the children from the Children’s Shelter, containing boots and sweatshirts.

The Ministry of Labor has given New Year’s presents to the children from the Children’s Shelter, containing boots and sweatshirts. Minister of Labor Rasim Ljajic delivered the gifts and in return the children gave him New Year cards which they made themselves. New Year gifts for shelter children The minister Ljajic that the government had adopted the initiative, launched by the ombudsman, to print charity stamps which would help raise money for Children’s Shelter in Belgrade, but also for developing a similar service in Novi Sad and Nis. “I expect that we will raise about RSD 7,500,000,” Ljajic said and added that the new Law on Social Protection would govern and define the functioning of the shelter, which would be financed from the local government funds. A total of 400 children living and working on the streets have been registered at the Belgrade shelter. During the winter months about 100 children come to the shelter every day, to eat, change, have a bath and socialize. Shelter’s coordinator Milica Djordjevic stressed that besides food, clothing and shoes, it was necessary to provide funds to finance the personnel. “We have volunteers who want to work with the children and help them, but we need to systematically arrange the work of professionals with the shelter’s beneficiaries and provide the funds,” she said.
