Electricity has been restored for several dozen internally displaced Serbs living in containers in the Serb enclave of Gracanica in central Kosovo. According to Radio Gracanica, electricity was turned back on during the afternoon hours of Friday after intensive negotiations between Pristina assembly officials, representatives of the Commissariat of Serbia for refugees and displaced persons, and officials from KFOR and the international community. Electricity restored for IDPs Coordinator of the Serbian Commissariat for Kosovo Dragan Velic said that it was agreed that the centers will have electricity during the holiday season, and that there will be negotiations held on a higher level after that in order to adequately solve the problems. Electricity was turned off in the makeshift community on Tuesday because of unpaid bills. Several dozen displaced persons protested on Thursday night, calling for the problems to be solved. The community for displaced persons in Gracanica was set up in 2004, after the March 17 attacks on the province's Serbs organized by ethnic Albanians. It houses those who lost their homes, jobs and social benefits ten years ago.
