A delegation of military veterans from Krusevac have submitted their demands to President Boris Tadic. They want to be reimbursed for wages owed to them dating back to the Kosovo conflict in 1999. Striking veterans meet with president The veterans want Tadic to publicly support them, and have threatened to hold a mass rally in Belgrade on June 19, if their demands are not met. They arrived at the presidency wearing t-shirts bearing messages such as “Fighters on Strike” and “Fighters of 1999”. The veterans from Krusevac, including hunger strikers from that town and Aleksinac, together with members of the other 22 municipalities that belong to the Third Army District, want the president to promise them that the new government will consider their demands at its first cabinet meeting. The veterans also want an inter-ministry working group to propose a method and time frame for their wages to be reimbursed. They believe that the best way to do this is to apply the model used for payment of the wages to veterans from Toplica, who successfully came to an agreement over their wages last year. Goran Jakovljevic and Zoran Kacarevic are inside the Presidency, while their colleagues are waiting in front of the building. Nine army veterans from Krusevac who have been on hunger strike since June 2 moderated their protest and started eating one meal a day to prepare for their journey to Belgrade.
