The U.S. ambassador presented certificates of appreciation from the governor of Ohio to inhabitants of the village of Pranjani. Cameron Munter made the presentations on Frday, in honor of those who had hidden and treated wounded members of the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the village near Gornji Milanovac. U.S. ambassador honors villagers Munter presented the certificates to brothers Velisav and Milijan Jankovic, Pavlija Papic and Dragan Vlaovic. “You are a living monument of our friendship and we will do everything in our power to preserve this friendship in future,” Munter said, and added that this year marked the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Serbia. The ambassador ended his visit to Pranjani during the afternoon, visiting the former provisional airfield on the Galovica Brdo hill, from which allied aircraft transferred about 500 U.S. pilots downed throughout Serbia to the Bari air base in 1944.
