Serbia won the European Youth Waterpolo Championships beating Hungary 11-9 in the final on Saturday in Malta. This was a game between two of the strongest sides in the world, let alone Europe. Serbian youth team European waterpolo champs There was little to choose between the two sides. They both played a zone game with Hungary relying more on their defensive qualities while the Serbs were more prolific in their shooting. Two players who caught the eye were Ivan Rackov of Serbia and Balazs Erdelyi of Hungary. The first session simply belonged to the Serbs who looked as if they were going to coast through to an easy victory. But the Hungarians responded well and although they were always chasing the match they managed to make the score 5-5, after Serbia had at one point led 5-1. Henad Vasilovski's side all but sealed victory in the third session when Miroslav Randic scored to put his side 11-8 up with a little more than two minutes to go. At the end of the match ASA President, aided by two LEN officials presented the trophies to the captains of the three placing in this tournament, Serbia, Hungary and Croatia.
