U.S. authorities have arrested Croatia-born Azra Baši, resident of Stanton, Kentucky, on suspicion that she committed war crimes against Serb civilians.

U.S. authorities have arrested Croatia-born Azra Basi, resident of Stanton, Kentucky, on suspicion that she committed war crimes against Serb civilians. The crimes in question took place during the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. U.S.: Croat woman arrested for war crimes 51-year-old Basic is charged with torturing and murdering Serb inmates at prison camps in the period from April to June 1992, during her service as a commander in a Croatian army brigade, Boston Herald reports. Interpol located Basic in Kentucky in 2004 and a district court in Bosnia-Herzegovina issued an international warrant for her arrest in October 2006. The U.S. received a formal request to extradite Basic to Bosnia in February 2007. The U.S. government requested more evidence pertaining to the alleged offenses, which Bosnian prosecutors provided in 2010.
