Bulgarian police seized a record amount of smuggled cigarettes, worth over EUR 3mn. Over 2.2 million packs were found at three locations in Plovdiv, Asenovgrad and Sadovo. Record amount of cigarettes seized in Bulgaria Bulgarian Interior Minister Cvetan Cvetanov said that over the last several days, some 2.7 million packs of smuggled cigarettes have been seized. The cigarette smuggling activities in Bulgaria have increased drastically recently, after the country decided to increase the excise taxes on tobacco products. Smugglers are particularly interested in cigarettes produced in Serbia, Macedonia and Moldova, cigarettes without a known country of origin, and tobacco products past their expiration dates.
