Serbian crime boss Sreten Jocic was interested in buying property owned by Vladimir Zagorac, who stands accused of wartime profiteering. Zagreb daily Jutarnji List states that yhe information regarding Jocic, known in the underground as Joca Amsterdam, came to light after the murder of Ivana Hodak, the daughter of Zagorac’s lawyer Zvonimir Hodak, in Zagreb on Monday. “Serbian crime baron implicated in Zagorac affair” Her father has indirectly accused Zagorac’s rival, Hrvoje Petrac, of the murder. Petrac served time for involvement in the murder of Zagorac’s son in 2006. A former boyfriend of Ivana Hodak, Zagreb businessman Ivor Vucelic, confirmed for the daily that the company where he works had discussed with Jocic the sale of a hotel owned by Zagorac, but that the deal had fallen through. “The police are already very familiar with Hrvoje Petrac’s links with Zarko Pavlovic, the owner of the San company, which deals in the import of coffee, cars and cigarettes in Serbia and works very closely with Sreten Jocic,” the daily writes. It also states that Jocic has gathered together the former members of the so-called Surcin Clan organized crime group—Milan Narancic, Andrija Draskovic, Ljubisa Buha and Predrag Rankovic—with whom he is actively participating in the Serbian privatization process. The daily also writes that Jocic, along with Narancic, has been trying to sell goods in Croatia, and has been meeting with retailers in Croatia in the hopes of cutting a deal, as well as with “several senior officials in the Croatian security apparatus.”
