"Referendum has happened, Brexit has not as yet"

The referendum has happened, but Brexit has not as yet, British diplomat Michael Davenport, who heads the EU Delegation to Serbia, has said.

"Referendum has happened, Brexit has not as yet"

The town, which has an ethnic Slovak majority, hosted a meeting on the start of Slovakia's EU presidency.

Davenport made the statement in response to reporters' questions if he would remain the head of the EU Delegation considering the outcome of the British EU referendum.

"The referendum has happened, but Brexit has not as yet, and the UK remains a member of the EU with all rights and obligations," he said.

When asked about Serbia's European prospects in the wake of the UK's referendum decision, Davenport said that the Paris summit of Western Balkan and EU leaders had sent the message the the EU remained fully committed to enlargement and expanding activities and cooperation with all candidate countries in the Western Balkans.

"There was concrete progress in that regard, in particular with respect to transport, energy and concrete projects," Davenport said.
