PM asks president to dissolve Assembly and call elections
"In less than two years, the Serbian government succeeded in preventing a collapse of public finances, pulled the country out of recession with difficult economic reforms, and opened the first chapters in EU accession talks. Today, Serbia is a stable country in political and economic terms with clear prospects for further progress," said the explanation of the proposal."The government considers the first phase in establishing a different, modern, and successful Serbia to have been completed when economic and political circumstances were fully stabilized, and that in order to secure European living standards and determine a clear and unequivocal path of our country to the future, a new force of a united Serbia is needed, with a clear mandate to finish the reforms an enable our state to be at the entrance door to the European family of nations," reads the document.
Tanjug reported later in the afternoon that it learned President Nikolic would at noon on Friday sign a decree to dismiss the Assembly and call parliamentary elections.
