Refugees hold peaceful protest, shout "thank you, Serbia"

The refugees were today protesting against the manner in which Hungarian authorities are treating them. They did not wish to speak to reporters, but were shouting, "Thank you, Serbia."

Among a group that was sitting on the ground in front of the refugees who formed a human shield were women and small children, including a baby.

They are holding up plackards asking to be allowed to pass through Hungary, declaring themselves as refugees who want to live in peace, and asking, "where are the human rights?"

After yesterday's incidents at Horgos 1 and Horgos 2, when the Hungarian police used teargas, water cannons, and batons to disperse refugees, the situation in calm on Thursday, with about 200 people waiting to be transported to the border between Serbia and Croatia.

Two people have been seriously injured, while between 200 and 300 sought medical help during the unrest yesterday.

Hungary asked Serbia "to take measures against refugees attacking Hungarian police," while Serbia sent a note to Hungary over the fact Hungarian police fired tear gas canisters into the Serbian territory.

Tanjug's reported at Horgos in the north said on Thursday that four buses with refugees from the Middle East departed toward Sid in the northwest, near the country's border with Croatia.

Also on Thursday, Croatia announced, citing Red Cross data, that 5,400 refugees had entered the country during the morning.
