"EU is Serbia's strategic orientation, key for dialogue"

"Belgrade has adopted an agreement on judiciary and a plan for its implementation, reached agreements on civil protection and municipal budgets, and the Serb representatives have returned to the Kosovo institutions."

"There are six points left. We want to raise the issue of a community of Serb municipalities as soon as possible, because for us that is an existential matter,” he added.

Dacic stressed that Serbia does not expect the EU to make any concessions in terms of the criteria, and pointed out that regional cooperation and reconciliation rank high among the country's foreign policy priorities.

"It is the interest of all countries in the region to carry out successful reforms and increase the efficiency of economic systems, so as to raise the standard of living for our citizens. Nevertheless, we need the EU's assistance in infrastructure projects in order to improve connectivity in the region," he noted.

Dacic also said that "EU membership is a key strategic orientation for Serbia and the government is fully committed to it."

Serbia is also ready to continue economic reforms, he said.

Opening the negotiations with the EU is a historic opportunity and it is our key strategic orientation. The government's goal is to finish everything in this regard by 2018 so that Serbia can be an EU member from 2020, Dacic told the participants of the Economic Forum.

"Serbia is ready to continue the reforms. Our top priority is building a rule-of-law state as the basic prerequisite for attracting investments, as well as developing small and medium-sized entrepreneurship," he noted.

"Over the past year, EUR 600 million has been invested in Serbia, which secured 7,500 new jobs, while 62 projects that, if implemented, could make the investments almost 1 billion, are under preparation," Dacic said, adding that the goal is to ensure the prerequisites for the maximum economic growth possible, employment for young people, fiscal consolidation and a restructuring of the economy.
