Serbia's EU membership "important for Europe and region"

According to the Serbia government's website, he said that "the trade exchange with Italy is good, and that Italian investors are most present in the Serbian market," and informed the guest "about economic reforms implemented in Serbia, as well as the level of reforms in the process of European integration."

Mattarella said that Italy "highly appreciates the reforms implemented by the government of Serbia" and added that it is "very important for Serbia to become an EU member, as this is important also for Europe and the Western Balkans."

He stressed that cooperation between the two countries is at a high level, that the trade exchange is also very good, but that Italy will continue to stimulate its entrepreneurs to invest more in Serbia.

The Italian president "stressed that Serbia is the first candidate country that he visited during his mandate."

After the meeting, Vucic organized a working lunch for Mattarella and the Italian delegation.

Earlier in the day, the Italian president was received by his Serbian counterpart, Tomislav Nikolic.
