PM wants proof that Seselj is now healthy

The leader of the Serb Radicals (SRS) is charged with war crimes and had spent more than 11 years in custody before he was set free last November., as he is ill with cancer. A verdict in the case is still pending.

"We will be making our decision when we receive some papers, but they must write for me in these papers when Seselj got healthy, through what treatment and methods," Vucic said.

Vucic noted that Seselj was released due to his illness after 11.5 years, but that he had no proof that Seselj in the meantime healed.

"Seselj is a citizen of Serbia, I have no good opinion about his politics, but our job is to protect our citizen and his constitutional rights," Vucic said.

He then asked "whether Serbia asked for (Seselj) to be returned, or if they (the Tribunal) sent him back."

"The government of Serbia has dignity," Vucic said, and added: "It cares about the pride of its people and the rights of its citizens. I have no proof that he got well. And what - he should go for two months, then they should pass a verdict and send him back again."

According to Vucic, his government will make a decision "in line with Serbia's interests and the respect for Serbia's citizens," and added that "this has nothing to do with politics."

Commenting on Seselj burning the Croatian flag in Belgrade last week, the prime minister said that it was "an uncivilized act and no way to talk."

Asked by a Croatian reporter to comment on statements of Serbia officials that Ante Gotovina is an Ustasha, Vucic asked, "when will you say some positive words about Serbian generals."

"You celebrate (Operation) Storm, here it is the saddest day when at least 250,000 people were driven from their homes. But our different views of the past should not mean different views of the future."

Vucic said he was convinced he would "reach an agreement" with Croatian PM Zoran Milanovi "on how to function in the future and solve crisis moments."

"I will give my best to build best possible relations," stressed Vucic.
