The Serbian government has designated facilities for the accommodation of asylum seekers who are currently in Obrenovac, near Belgrade.

BELGRADE The Serbian government has designated facilities for the accommodation of asylum seekers who are currently in Obrenovac, near Belgrade. At its session on Thursday, the government strongly condemned the violence and an arson attack that took place in the town on Wednesday. Govt. designates facilities for asylum seekers A facility of the SAVA-TENT company in Obrenovac has been set aside for temporary housing and provision of basic living conditions to the asylum seekers. The police on Thursday arrested one suspect after a facility previously designated for this purpose was set on fire. After a full day of drama on Wednesday, when the locals blocked the road in protest against their presence, the asylum seekers were temporarily housed in a hotel in Obrenovac. Some will now also be sent to the municipalities of Sjenica and Tutin in southwestern Serbia, for which local authorities gave their consent. The government also decided that asylum seekers are not under obligation to pay the residency tax. The government tasked the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees and Migrations, relevant ministries and local governments, to carry out this conclusion and provide the necessary accommodation for asylum seekers.
