BELGRADE PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that he had "suggested" to Police Director Milorad Veljovic to "join the diplomatic service", a daily writes. In an interview for the Belgrade-based tabloid Blic, published on Monday, Dacic also said that he had not yet decided whose name to put forward as the candidate for the next police director, and noted there were "several serious candidates". Dacic also revealed he spoke with Veljovic, who previously announced he would apply to be reelected, and that he suggested that he should join the diplomatic service instead. "The competition will be announced on Thursday, we will see who will apply," the prime minister stated, and added that the new director would get to "choose his team" - that is, the police chiefs. The daily noted that Dacic previously said that changes in the top police echelons did not amount to "sackings or purges", but to "a regular process regulated by law". Dacic refused to comment on the wiretapping affair where his First Deputy Aleksandar Vucic and President Tomislav Nikolic were allegedly targeted.
