Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) deputy leader Milutin Mrkonjic has said the parties in the previous ruling coalition could have already formed a new government. He also called on the Democratic Party (DS) to speed up the talks. SPS official: Democrats must speed up talks “I am angry with DS leader Boris Tadic because he still has not formed a parliamentary majority. The Democrats' hesitation is pushing us toward the Serbian Progressive Party (DS),” Mrkonjic told daily Vecernje novosti. "The slowness of our partners from the DS has come as a negative surprise to me," the SPS official was quoted as saying. When asked why he was blaming only the Democrats for the failure of the talks when the Socialists were also part of the dialogue, Mrkonjic said "the situation is clear." "The parties from the previous government have more MPs than in the last term. So, what are we waiting for? If we are going to continue our policy and major state tasks, why have we not formed a government," he wondered. According to Mrkonjic, the SPS is not the strongest party in the parliament so that it could form a majority. "We have said we want a government with the DS. Why don't they form it? We are not stalling, quite the opposite - we are insisting that the talks move faster," he pointed out. "We are already running late. Because, if we can form a government, why don't we? If the DS is ready to give up on the policy we have been implementing together over the last four years, they should come out and say so. Then we will have to seek partners on the other side," Mrkonjic concluded. Milutin Mrkonjic (Tanjug, file) Tanjug Vecernje novosti
