Serbian and Russian Foreign Ministers Vuk Jeremic and Sergei Lavrov discussed bilateral and international cooperation in Moscow today. The two ministries are preparing a declaration on strategic partnership between Russia and Serbia. Lavrov said that new goals of cooperation could be determined based on executed agreements which had been reached during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Belgrade last year. Jeremic pointed out that deepening and expansion of relations should be discussed and expressed hope that they would be even better next year. The Russian FM stated today that he was together with his Serbian counterpart working on a declaration on strategic partnership that would be signed by the two countries’ presidents next year. “We have to prepare a new set of agreements for the next meeting of our leaders next year,” he told a press conference after the meeting with Jeremic. Lavrov stressed that there was a consent to hand over the strategic partnership declaration to the presidents. Outside participation in this process should be strong and balanced, he said. The Russian foreign minister recalled that Moscow believed the Kosovo problem solution should be based on the UN SC document. He stressed that the Security Council, UN Mission in Kosovo and Kosovo itself should be guided by this document, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reports. Jeremic also stressed that the Kosovo status issue should be dealt with exclusively within the framework of the UN SC Resolution 1244. Underground gas storage to be opened in early 2011 Lavrov has announced the underground gas storage in Banatski Dvor will be opened in the beginning of 2011. He has assessed that Russia-Serbia cooperation in the area of energy was progressing, including the South Stream project, the Russian agency Itar-Tass reported. According to him, certain Russian companies are negotiating with the Serbian companies on the projects of construction of new electric power plants. “Such projects are not beneficial only for one side, but are rather of mutual benefit,” Lavrov underscored.
