Ruling G17 Plus party leader Mladjan Dinkic stated on Wednesday in Belgrade that the media speculation about his party's imminent demise was not true. Some newspapers said that G17 Plus would cease to exist, and be reborn in Serbia's political scene as the United Regions of Serbia (URS). Dinkic calms fears that G17 might disappear Dinkic, a government minister, stressed that URS will appear in the next elections as a party separate from G17 Plus, and added that this political group has already taken part in some local elections in the Serbian cities. The Belgrade-based daily Danas reported that after almost a decade and a half of existence, the G17 Plus political brand is slowly passing into history, and is being replaced by URS. "By the end of the year, the G17 Plus group in parliament will be renamed URS, and the same thing will happen in all municipal assemblies where the party has its boards," according to the newspaper.
