Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said that the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries helps to maintain peace in the region. She opened a two-day meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Belgrade. “European perspective helps maintain peace” Djukic-Dejanovic said that the Serbian parliament and government continue to confirm Serbia's commitment to the development of a democratic society, based on the rule of law and respect of human and minority rights, and the principles of a market economy. She also said that Serbia is committed to the development of state institutions in keeping with criteria for its EU accession. Djukic-Dejanovic noted that the parliament had demonstrated its readiness to speed up the adoption of new laws that would help harmonization with EU regulations and standards of the Council of Europe.
