A spokeswoman for the ruling Democrats (DS) denied on Wednesday that there were plans to call early parliamentary elections in the country. The opposition SNS party yesterday said they had learned the elections would be held next year. Democrats deny early elections rumors "DS is never against elections as it is convinced of its power, but it places state interests above party ones and no elections will therefore be held before 2012," Jelena Trivan said in a statement. "The task of the DS as the largest political party and the party at the head of the state is to complete all tasks initiated in Serbia, including defending the country's economy from the recession, protecting the citizens from the effects of the recession, and building infrastructure," she said. "All this will be done by 2012, when regular parliamentary elections will be held," the spokeswoman concluded.
