Director of the European Integration Office Milica Delevic told B92 that Serbia must implement reforms in order to get on the Schengen white list. “The wave of violence in Belgrade and the attacks on foreign citizens which marked the last week cannot have an effect on the EU’s decision to abolish visas for Serbia, but it will absolutely be mentioned in the annual report which is written in Brussels regarding countries that want to become Union member states,” Delevic said. “Laws must be implemented for visa liberalization” “The fact that the commission passed a decision for abolishing visas does not mean that the job is finished. We must now show that we are implementing laws and a big challenge is ahead of us, to show that differing orientations will not endanger this,” Delevic said. European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot will be in Belgrade on Monday, where he will meet with Serbian officials to discuss the visa liberalization process. His visit is the first opportunity for the claims of the Serbian politicians to be checked, regarding whether or not all conditions for visa liberalization have been fulfilled. One of the main topics of discussion will be the report which Serbia filed to the European Commission on Friday. Barrot will be participating in a conference for the fight against organized crime. In order for visas to be abolished, The European Parliament and EU Council of Ministers, as well as all other European institutions, must confirm that all conditions have been fulfilled. A final decision on the issue is expected in early December. Bozidar Djelic and Milica Delevic (Beta)
