The public administration minister thinks it is possible to reduce the number of ministries, but that public agencies should be the first to fall under the ax. Arguing that a great many agencies had failed to serve their purpose, Milan Markovic told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti that "we would effect significant and much bigger savings by closing down certain agencies and returning their powers to public administration, than by reducing the number of ministries."
