The minister of public administration and local self-government spoke about decreasing the salaries to the level of average wages. "Difficult decision" on manager salaries "That amount of money would remain in the private sector for other, more useful purposes," evaluated Markovic, who was personally appointed by the prime minister to find a model which would help rationalize the directors' earnings. But he said that it is "very difficult to define in a single sweep the issue of managerial salaries in all public companies". "Particular ministries, in whose jurisdiction are companies which perform services of public interest, are in charge of the realization of this recommendation. No ministry has indicated that there is a problem in observing that decision," Markovic said in an interview for the Belgrade daily Politika on Monday. The recommendation is not legally binding.
